1:1 Tutoring & Small Pod Tutoring - FAQ
Since I am an Individual, I offer more personalized approach to my students, more than just a number in a large corporate company. I like to get to know them, I like to be creative, have honesty with kindness, while being as clear and direct in my communication.
How do I proceed if I'm interested in a Tutor?
If you wish to start tutoring, please fill out the online Contact form. Please include: any and all info i might need to understand you and your student, ie, names, age, interests, strengths, areas of improvement, goals, times options for tutoring, duration of sessions & best times for me to contact you, and any questions or concerns you have for me.
What happens after I submit Contact Form?
I respond within 24 hours to any Contact I receive (or sooner). I like to have brief 10-15 minute Initial Consult via phone/video for an initial consult with you and your student. This is kind of an ice-breaker, getting to know you so that we aren't strangers on our first lesson. Also, if if you don't think we are a good fit, this is the time 'see'. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please let me know. I try to be as flexible as I can. We will also discuss needing extra-time, answering questions outside of session, hourly rates, payment options, my Cancellation Policy, etc.
What are your tutoring sessions like?
1:1 Tutorials start with a 5-10 minute warmup related to their subject to build confidence and momentum. Sessions can last an hour or more (depending on what is agreed upon). After warmup, I answer any questions they may have first, and then tackle any current CW, HW, prepare for a test, etc. I'll ask questions throughout, to engage and involve students as much as possible. I will work through problems with your student, and try to get them to teach & explain as soon as possible back to me. I'll ask about my pace and their understanding throughout. This is my job, to help you understand. Helping me improve, helps everyone improve!
Small Pods Tutorials are for small groups from 2-6 people max. Students who are looking for a less expensive tutorial with a few of their friends who also want extra assistance.
What technology do you use?
I use Zoom for our tutoring sessions. I also have 2 cameras, one on my computer, and one setup to show my work on the desk. I also have a whiteboard with markers, if needed as well. I also have super high speed internet 400mbs, so we are set!
Do I need to prepare anything for our sessions?
Yes! Being prepared is a Life Skill. I ask all students to be prepared, with pencils, pens, paper, notebook, a GOOD attitude, and sending me their CW/HW in advance, so I can best prepare. It takes time to set everything up Online, and then for me to review it beforehand. I would much rather use my time to help you with your work and questions, then to wait to download the info I need. I also expect your student to be taking notes & paying attention along with me, however, I also record all our Online sessions on Zoom, and will send a link to your email to access these videos for extra review/notes, if needed. I try to be as flexible, helpful, and understanding as I can. I am even willing to negotiate...however, this is still a business.
