GEOMETRIC ART: String Art 🪡 Jeanine, Elias, Betty & Pyper have all separately learned the String Art Class & the Math behind it, in the Beginner Course. This course briefly reviewed the Coordinate Plane, X & Y axis, the 4 quadrants, the origin point (0,0), and how to understand / create coordinates. Then we learned, if you make a series of lines in a certain pattern, they can create a CURVE!!! WHAT??? 📉⤴️ Jeanine, (a veteran High School Math Teacher) also did the ‘Advanced String Art Class’ where we worked on various shapes rotated around a circle and what shapes these produced, and sewed them with String & produced some String Art Animals, a Giraffe, Jeanine’s fave animal 🦒. (See photos 1-4) 📸 📸 📸 📸 Today, Elias (4th grade, LA, California, USA) persevered, and with patience and fortitude completed this sewing project! Having never before picking up a needle & thread! I’m very impressed with his go at the ‘Beginner String Art Class’ and our Colored Pencils Study to prepare us for the sewing part! Equally impressive is Elias’ prep for the class! It makes interactive classes with a new medium much easier with less anxiety. (See photos 5 & 6) 📸 📸 Betty, a Year 8 student in Oxford, UK, took this course in April, see her String Art Project and Colored Pencil Study Prep. (See photo 7) 📸 Pyper, 1st grade student, and her String Art Sewing Project. Front/Across, Back/Beside😜(See photo 8 & video) 📸 🎥 $10 per person. 5 students signed up already. 5 slots left!!! (See Supply List - photos 9 & 10) 📸 📸 If your interested in try your hand at this Math/Art (drawing & sewing) project, sign up for our Group Beginner String Art Class this Monday, August, 2nd at 11am (EST) by Email! #themcnuttyprofessor #onlinemathclasses #onlinesciencesclasses #scienceexperiments #funmathprojects #homeschoolplanning #homeschoolkids #homeschoolgroups #summerkidsactivities #math #art #geometry #geometricart #beziercurve#stringart #curvestitching #coordinateplane #xandyaxisart #reflectionsrotationstranslationsohmy #reflections #rotations #translations #goodpreparationpreventspoorperformance

GEODESIC DOME CLASS:
Yesterday, Keira & Kailani, Lilo, Mango (from Orange County, California), & Pyper (not pictured) got together to learn about Geodesic Domes from around the world. They learned about Epcot at Disney World, Florida, USA, The Eden Project in Cornwall, UK some cool domed tents in Patagonia, and how a Geodesic Dome house can be built in about 7 hours and it’s so strong it can withstand earthquakes, hurricanes & tornados!!! WHAT??? We decided to build one ourselves (in 1 hour! NOT 7! 😆😳) In just 12 simple steps using nothing but straws and pipe cleaners to create 6 pentagons that contain 3d triangles, we did it! Yes, this is possible to do in an hour without pulling your hair out, as long as you’ve done a little prep to the straws!!! We had fun, and I especially loved how Keira and Kailani’s birds 🦜🦜 (Lilo & Mango) would climb on their heads, and sometimes both at the same time. It was so cool to see! And sometimes the birds try kissing them too! I had no idea birds could be so affectionate towards humans!❤️🥰 I learned something too!!!🎓🤪🤩 Thanks to Jennifer (Mom) for sharing these photos, & doing this class and Stick Multiplication!!! Your girls are clever, beautiful, and so much fun! Here’s to more classes together in the future!!! ❤️❤️❤️ #themcnuttyprofessor #geodesicdome #geodesicsphere #geodesicdomehome #buckminsterfuller #mathonline #funmath #professoonaldevelopment #professionaldecelopmentforteachers #ideasformathteachers #ideasforarchitecturestudents #handsongeometry #handsonmath #mathisfun #onlinemathclasses #onlinemathtutoring #trianglespentagonsdomesandspeheresohmy #homeschoolmama #homeschoolevent #summerfun #playgroundlearning #mathideasforteachers #artideasforteachers #engineeringart #steamfun #stemfun4kidz #math #engineering #dome #domes DIY: Optical Illusion (Geometric Art)
Here’s a very basic Math & Art project you can do with your kids! (Or yourself, it’s super fun and relaxing!) For all you different types of learners, I created a very quick video (done in 5-10 minutes) showing the process & I also wrote down 6 basic steps that you can adapt to any shape: 1- draw a square 2- put a dot in the center 3- pick any shape (draw it large & within the square) 4- draw the same shape again (but smaller) & inside itself 5- draw 10-12 lines around the square that meet at the center dot 6- pick a place to start coloring. Alternate B&W colors in all the sections. VOILA!!! PS- replace black with another color to jazz it up. Or replace both black and white with 2 different colors for EXTRA TRIPPY drawings! 🤪😝 More complex shapes and designs coming your way in a group class soon! If interested, EMAIL me! Ages 6+ (younger than 6 welcome, but more parent assistance may be required depending on child/skills)DIY: Optical Illusion (Geometric Art) WAVE? or SHARK FIN? Been practicing some Kirigami… What’s Kirigami, you ask? It’s like Origami, where you fold paper, but unlike Origami, it involves intricate cuts as well. It gives a 3d ‘pop-up’ effect. I’ve worked on some kiddie friendly types that I call “Paper Cuts” (exploring the limits & versatility Paper, btw, it’s actually cooler than it sounds! See upcoming posts) I personally love exploring the more architectural, industrial and geometric types. Since I love pop-up books and cards (I’ve collected many from my travels in ‘awe’ of “I’ll never be able to do that” type of wonder), it only makes sense I would give this a try now! Here’s my first basic adult go at it……See what Pyper and Blake think it looks like, and their music mashup!!! STICK MULTIPLICATION CLASS: What a success! Kiera, Kailani, Elias, Cadence, Beckham, Bricen, Rosalie, Logan, Kennedy & Pyper!!! Kids of various ages and math levels coming together to learn a different, more colorful and visual way to multiply. Ages 6+ from California, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia & NYC! I will be honest, next time I think separating the ones who do long multiplication from the ones who have never done it, will be a better way going forward. HOWEVER, it does remind all kids that in life we are at different levels and paces and to be patient. Regardless, from what the parents have reported back and what the kids mentioned at the end, they all learned another way that they can use to help them! I also think the Kahoot! game at the beginning and end made it more fun too! Thanks again to all who joined! And thanks to everyone who let me post your photos!!! PS- I’ve included a snippet of how to do basic Stick Multiplication with a step by step drawing and words. See if you are able to do it in your own!!! ❤️ The McNutty Professor 👩🔬🧪🥼 ❤️ Hi, I'm Pyper snd I'm 6. I'm with my Aunty Jac, aka The McNutty Professor. Nature is our BIGGEST influence, especially the beach. I love mermaids, flamingos, and unicorns, the colors pink and turquise. We BOTH LOVE Math and Science. My aunty is super influenced by Geometric Art & Architecture, 3d shapes, origami, Kurigami, and Bubbles. We look forward to taking our Watercolor Classes together. So watch this space! And after class we'll head to the beach! ❤️ Pyper Check out what we get up to on IG: https://www.instagram.com/themcnuttyprofessor/ |
