KOREA:
ESL Teacher - Kindergarten to High School
In 2007, I took a TEFL course, hopped on a plane to Seoul, South Korea and for the next 4 years immersed myself with the people, language, culture, food, and of course my kiddies. I taught ESL (English as a Second Language) to Kindergarteners with NO English and by 3 months, they were talking away. I worked in both private Hagwons and Public Elementary Schools. I privately tutored some High School students and Adults in my spare time. I had so much fun, despite the cultural and language differences; learning to laugh at lot (at your own mistakes) helps.
I learned the Korean Alphabet within 1.5 hours, and could speak basic 'kiddie korean'. I could order food, haggle, take a taxi, introduce myself, and understand a large amount of the general conversation. I LOVE Korea, especially the beaches of 부산 (Busan) & 노래방 (noraebang aka karaoke) and the food. In Korea, you will never go hungry with all the delicious 반찬 (side dishes). But if you did go hungry, remember, "시장이 반찬이다" (Hunger is the best side dish)! When your've hungry, almost anything will taste amazing!
