Photos: My 1st Day of School
As a Student (1985) / As a Math Teacher (2018) Second, I like to dispel myths and fears about subjects like Math by building confidence & finding something you love and showing how it relates to that subject.
Third, I love using my Architectural background & traveling experiences to influence my teaching and 'Hands-On' approach. I love using color, visuals, notes, games, projects, crafts, experiments, etc to engage the student in understanding better. I use questions to gauge my pace for the student, PowerPoints & as much involvement as possible, and teach the correct terminology so they can start 'speaking Math' (a foreign language to many!) and then teaching it to me and others. |
Teaching, Tutoring, Traveling
(& Designing) Since 1998 A little about me - My name is Jaclyn McNutt. I’m originally from Eastern NC. I love traveling, design, baking, crafting homemade cards, math puzzles and helping other with math, & spending time with family especially Pyper & Blake (my niece & nephew) and my shihtzu puppies, Gunner & Grizzly.
Yes, I’m a (proud) NERD, and have always loved Math, Science and Art. This lead me to study Architecture at the University of Miami, where I was a Math tutor for the Calculus & Physics classes in the Architecture Department. I also travelled extensively as a student. Upon graduation, I took work overseas in London, and from there I worked, lived & traversed 4 continents, filling my passport with STAMPS! I love Math, because Math is all around us. Math isn’t just numbers or formulas; it’s exploring, finding patterns & problem solving. It’s one of the few international languages of the world & it unites cultures and timezones. I started teaching because I got itchy feet working in the Corporate world. I took a leap of faith and hopped on a plane to Seoul, South Korea and taught ESL for 4 years. (AndYes, I still do Architectural work & offer lessons for basic drafting & design) That taste of teaching & tutoring throughout High School & college has allowed me to teach & share at all levels: Toddlers, Pre-K, Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, High School, tutoring at University and even Adults. I've done this in Korea, USA, Mexico & Online (globally). What makes me a 'GOOD' Teacher? First, I’m a really good student and I have a natural skill to take difficult concepts, break them down, then build them back into terms I understand (for anyone of any age). If I don't know something, I will research it and devour it until I understand it, then share my knowledge. And if that doesn't work, I will find someone who can! |
